ORGAN RESTORATION UPDATE...

At the first full meeting of the new PCC a critical decision was taken unanimously to go ahead with Stage 2 a and b of the organ restoration. This includes the Great and Pedal Organ and a new console and commits us to raising £50,000 over the next twelve months. Since then a very generous grant has been awarded to us for this work which enables us to go forward with confidence. Such an encouragement means that we are now raising funds for Stage 3. .
Fund Raising
Early in the Organ restoration project the idea of sponsoring pipes came up and it was decided that we should leave this for phases 3 and 4. The time has now come to launch this. We have broken down the organ by stop and pipe size to give a range of donations from £10 to £9150 – from a single 1 3/5 ft pipe up to a 16 ft stop with 61 pipes. Just choose your pipe or stop and apply to sponsor a specific part of the organ. We will have a full display showing all 2,677 pipes, being coloured in by the younger choristers as the money is raised.
We need your help. Why not “give” a pipe instead of a Christmas Present. With the chance of a postal strike you won’t want to send something valuable through the post. You can sponsor as a gift or to remember a special occasion or loved one – Were you baptised in St Paul’s or married there as I was?
We will record your gift in our Book of Benefactors and you can have a gift certificate if you would like one. All of the sponsorship donations are being channelled through the Friends of St Paul’s and whenever possible we will reclaim gift aid. We need your help. The traditional pipe organ is very much a part of our liturgy and worship.
We are starting this Appeal NOW – at the beginning of November to coincide with the time of year which gives us the highest footfall – We have a really good chance to reach a large number of outsiders who come into our Church for the Christmas Tree Festival, Carol Services, Concerts and most important of all Christmas. We are providing Sponsorship forms, but if you have a specific request for a stop or pipe it would be advisable to check with me first via the S pigeon hole.
